Our history

An Adventure Crowned with Success and Full of Promise

In March 1993, when they were only 21 and 20 years old, brothers Christophe and Olivier Beauvais founded Plaisirs Gastronomiques (Jean-Philippe Beauvais, the youngest of the three brothers, joined the business in 1996). It marked the beginning of an adventure leading straight to success. Today, as they head up a business of some 300 employees that has established an enviable position in the Canadian ready-to-eat market, the Beauvais brothers view their expansion in the Canadian and Quebec with optimism. The Plaisirs Gastronomiques brand has become the hallmark of quality and innovation in Quebec's ready-to-eat market and this recognition will grow with impactful television advertising and regular new product introductions.

Physically Demanding Beginnings

The Beauvais brothers success wasn't a lucky break, but the result of hard work over long weeks and many sacrifices. During the first few months, Christophe and Olivier worked alone to produce, market, and distribute the quiches and pot pies, in addition to managing the business. In fact, they often put in 120-hour work weeks in the beginning.

A Succession of Projects from 1,000 to 132,000 Square Feet

The quiches and pot pies were initially prepared in a space measuring 1,000 square feet, located in Sainte-Rose, Laval. In practically no time, the facilities proved too small to respond to the ever-increasing demand. In 1994, the two entrepreneurs doubled the available floor space. In 1995, they relocated to Blainville, followed by a further expansion in 1997.

In 1998 and 1999, the company broadened its line of prepared meals by marketing a variety of sandwiches and fresh pizzas. These new products rapidly became consumer favorites, leaving the Beauvais brothers once again tight for space and contemplating major investments. In 1999, they started construction of the current facility in Boisbriand, which became operational in August 2001. This was the plant in which the company developed prepared salads.

Acquisitions

Plaisirs Gastronomiqus acquires Dame Charcute Inc.

On October 1, 2002, the Beauvais brothers purchased their parents' company, Dame Charcute Inc., an artisanal butcher shop. Early in 2004, this new activity was transferred to the Boisbriand facility, which was made possible by expanding installations to the current 52,000 square feet. It also rounded out the Plaisirs Gastronomiques line of products.

Plaisirs Gastronomiqus acquires Les Aliments Norel.

In november 2007, the Beauvais brothers purchased Les Aliments Norel.
